Let’s ponder our lifestyles a moment

A healthy lifestyle is more than abstinence from alcohol, it is more than eating raw, paleo, sugar-free or more vegetables. We often limit our perception of health to what we eat – or don’t eat – how many times we hit the gym, and our dress size. We vilify coffee, sugar, wheat, alcohol and yet remain frustrated, angry, resentful, unforgiving, tense, distracted, competitive, chaotic, busy.

What is happening in the rest of your life that says “I’m healthy”? Do you:

  • avoid using the microwave to heat food when other alternatives are available?
  • feed your soul with mindful activities?
  • eliminate chemicals from your household and beauty products?
  • practice forgiveness and non-judgement?
  • get enough rest?
  • regularly engage in activities and past-times that you enjoy?
  • practice living in harmony with nature and the seasons?
  • healthily express your emotions?
  • practice “the art of doing nothing”?
  • cleanse your aura?
  • get regular tune ups from a complementary health practitioner?
  • restrict the use of antibiotics and pharmaceuticals to absolutely necessary?
  • understand if you are an introvert or extrovert and circumstances under which you recharge? (this is not about loud and confident vs. reserved and shy. In a nutshell, extroverts = recharged around other people, introverts = recharged by alone time).
  • remain kind to yourself?

I’m not saying that you have to do all these things to be healthy. These are just a few examples we can do on a daily basis that will feed a state of health. You can keep spending on gym memberships, supplements, and organic, fad-of-the-moment foods, but turning a blind eye on lifestyle choices is not going to make that money well spent if it is wellbeing that you really want to achieve.
